- 14-JUL-2008 - RACING UPDATES Congratulations to Jean-Luc Liverato for showing everyone how it's done over the weekend at the Watkins Glen national. Jean-Luc qualified in the CSR class in the 1:47s and he ran the wet race on full rains. He started P2 overall behind a Swift 014a Formula Atlantic. But after the FA went off course on the opening lap, Jean-Luc kept his Stohr WF1 in the overall lead until the checker. Congratulations Jean-Luc and crew chief Chris Young!
Also big congratulations on the west coast to Kyle Oberndorf for winning his race at Mission Raceway Park, outside of Vancouver, B.C. Not only did Kyle win with his Stohr F1000, but he bested the existing overall lap record by over 3 seconds to a 1:06.44. Way to go Kyle! Upcoming races - the CAT National at Road America July 25-27.
- 07-JUL-2008 - RACING UPDATES Congratulations to George Levien for winning both FB national races over the July 04 weekend at the Louella Cook Double National at Roebling Road Raceway. George rented the SCNA Stohr F1000 which ran flawlessly all weekend in the 90+ degree temps with track temps approaching 140 degrees at race time. Way to go Georgie!!! Jean-Luc Liverato ran his WF1 in CSR, most likely planning to obtain enough points and finishes to compete in CSR at the 2008 Runoffs. Jean-Luc won Race 1 on Saturday with a mix of wet and dry weather during the race. On Sunday, he had a throttle cable issue in Race 2, having to pit to fix the problem, but did take the checker. Congratulations Jean-Luc!
- 27-JUN-2008 - RACING UPDATES The 2008 June Sprints did not disappoint this year as being one of the premier SCCA events in the country. Stohr WF1 driver J.R. Osborne showed up with a new 670cc turbocharged engine, Dorian Foyil had the new high downforce, low drag rear wing/engine cover configuration, and Jean-Luc Liverato brought his already fast package for battle. New this year was the F1000 race in which 3 Stohr F1000s competed: Jean-Luc Liverato in The Motorsports Group's car, Kyle Oberndorf, and John Stecher. In DSR, Osborne had issues with the turbo engine, choosing to put the reliable GSX-R power back in his car for the race, even after turning a 2:05.2. Liverato had to change engines early in the weekend and Foyil was able to run about every lap of every session all weekend with his trusty WF1. The race was uneventful with Osborne taking the spoils, Liverato P2, and Foyil P3. In F1000, Oberndorf finished an unofficial P2, with Stecher P3. Liverato experienced a severe vibration in the car and decided to pull in early, in spite of trying to make mechanical adjustments during the full-course yellow. Official results have Oberndorf as P5 and Stecher P6. Great job everyone!
- 17-JUN-2008 - RACING UPDATES Over the June 06-08 weekend, two Formula 1000s raced at Sebring International Raceway. Bill Wald in the SCNA car, and Joe Fitos, with his newly-delivered, gorgeous red F1000. It was Joe's first weekend with his new car. In qualifying, Wald took the overall pole at 1:07.5 and Joe, in just his second session with the car, had a fast lap of 1:09.9. In race 1, Wald led the pack to a good start, then spun onto the curb with cold tires. Fitos won in FB with a 1:09.4. In Race 2, grid positions were set to finishing positions in Race 1. Wald started Race 2 in P14. The start was waved off. After five laps into the race, Wald worked his way through trafffic, passing the lead FA and FB battle, and continued to stretch his gap. At the end of 26 laps, Wald had a twenty second lead over P2 with a new track record of 1:07.1. Fitos finished P2 in FB with a great time of 1:08.2! The F1000s are really starting to show their potential! Congratulations to both!
- 26-MAY-2008 - RACING UPDATES On the east coast, there were four Stohr WF1s battling for the win at Road Atlanta on June 01. Michael Crowe towed his WF1 up from Florida, and Frank Howard took delivery of his new race-ready, carbon-bodied WF1 at the track. Ken Tyrrell was fastest in Q1 at 1:19.5. Liverato beat Tyrrell in Q2 by 0.050 sec. but neither was faster than the top Q1 lap time. The DSR race grid was Tyrrell, Liverato, Allen, Crowe, and Howard. Tyrrell got a great start, leading the 25-car field into T1. Liverato got stuck behind an ailing FA, which covered the front of his car with oil. Crowe retired early with engine issues, then Allen with a cracked steering rod. Tyrrell triumphed, finishing P1 overall. Liverato finished P2, followed by Howard. Another podium full of Stohrs! Out west at the Rose Cup National in Portland, Mark Jaremko won handily in DSR with his WF1, and Nicholas Belling took FB honors with his F1000. Congratulations to all!
- 26-MAY-2008 - RACING UPDATES Memorial Day weekend was full of Stohr competition. At Memphis Motorsports Park, Garry Crook finished P1 & P2 at the double national in DSR and reset the lap record. At Texas World Speedway David Burkett, in the TMG Stohr F1000, finished P1 in the national and P1 in the regional, with Ken Tandy finished P2 in the regional with his Stohr F1000. Out west at Miller Motorsports Park, several Stohr WF1s ran the gigantic 4.486-mile full configuration. In DSR, J.R. Osborne, finished P1, Tim Micklos P2, and Sam Souvall P3. In CSR, Chris Farrell finsihed P2. Further west at the Seattle double national, Mark Jaremko took all the DSR spoils. In FB, both races had an all-Stohr podium: Race 1 - P1 Nicholas Belling, P2 David Palmer, P3 Kyle Oberndorf. In Race 2 - P1 Kyle Oberndorf (with new lap record), P2, Nicholas Belling, P3 David Palmer. Ada Cheung was running her Stohr F1000 at Carolina Motorsports Park -- results not yet posted. On May 18, Jean-Luc Liverato obliterated the Summit Point DSR track record and came very close to the overall SCCA lap record by finishing P1 in his Stohr WF1. Upcoming races are the Road Atlanta National and the June Sprints. Congratulations to all!
- 07-MAY-2008 - STOHR RACING UPDATES Lots of racing over the past weekend found Stohr racing cars on the podium across the country! At the Daytona SCCA National, Michael Crowe took P1 in his Yamaha-powered WF1 with a fast lap of 1:56.5. At Texas Motor Speedway Double National, The Motorsport Group's F1000 with David Burkett driving took the spoils both days, with James Michael a close second in his F1000. Tom Gonzales finished P2 & P1 in DSR. At Summit Point the week prior, Lorenzo Curci finished P2 in DSR with his first gen Stohr, despite a failing engine. Out west, Mark Jaremko cleaned up in DSR at Portland International Raceway, resetting the lap record with a new GDRE Suzuki in his WF1. In the same race, it was an all-Stohr F1000 Formula B podium with David Palmer at P1, Kyle Oberndorf P2 (resetting lap record), and Mark Belling P3. Congratulations to all!
- 07-MAY-2008 - STOHR DELIVERS F1000 CHASSIS #023!! Best wishes to Joseph Fitos for taking delivery of his brilliant red, race ready Stohr F1000 at Daytona over the weekend. Joe had been campaigning a Formula SCCA car in the southeast. He's looking forward to better performance and reliability. Congratulations Joe!
- 16-APR-2008 - STOHRS WIN AT VIR DOUBLE NATIONAL The SCCA Double National at VIR was a "roller coaster" for all Stohr competitors. On the Thursday test day, Dorian Foyil lost an engine in the afternoon test session. Jean-Luc Liverato was fighting balance with a borrowed aftermarket front diffuser, while his unit is repaired from resulting damage at Road Atlanta. Ken Tyrrell, returning to VIR for his second visit, and first time in his WF1, clocked an unofficial 1:47.11 on the warm test day, FOUR seconds faster than the 2007 lap record!. On Friday, as clouds moved in, there were two qualifying sessions, one each for the two races. Tyrrell took the top spot in DSR, with Foyil P2, while Liverato continued fighting to find a usable ride height and rake with his diffuser. By Saturday morning, Liverato resolved much of his diffuser issues and ran a 1:49.2 in the second race 1 qualifying session. Tyrrell broke one of his two shift cables on his out lap, but after a temporary repair, bettered his time to a 1:48.5, with Foyil in P3. Then the skies opened. Twice before the race, strong thunder storms passed over the track. The uncertain track conditions were clear, with the formula cars and sports racers heading to the grid with slick, intermediate, and full rain tires. After a clean start, Liverato took the lead with full rains with Tyrrell close behind. Tyrrell spun around lap 4 of 14, giving Liverato a large gap. As Tyrrell continued from his spin and tried to close the gap to Liverato, Foyil spun and ended up stopping just before the guard rail. Having no reverse gear, he jumped out of the cockpit, pulled his car back to a moveable positon, secured himself back in the car and continued. As he returned to the track, Liverato spun, giving Tyrrell the lead. The track started to have somewhat of a dry line at the checker with Tyrrell P1, Liverato P2, and Allen P3. On Sunday, there was a second qualifying session for race 2. Tyrrell's engine dropped a valve, eliminating his chance to start P1 overall in the 48 car field. Liverato had the lead and held it to the finish, nursing a broken header tube during the closing laps. Foyil dropped a rear wheel off in a very fast section of the track, meeting the tire wall and sustaining significant damaage. Fortunately, he walked away, a testament to the safety of the WF1 and his safety gear. Kevin Allen finished P2 in the Malley-Allen, and was very satisfied with his team's performance. Next up is the Daytona National the first weekend in May. Congratulations to all!
- 02-APR-2008 - STOHR WINS AT ROAD ATLANTA The SCCA Road Atlanta national was an amazing event. Four Stohr WF1s came to battle, one of them being the 2007 National Champ J.R. Osborne. The others were Ken Tyrrell, Jean-Luc Liverato, and Garry Crook. George Smith competed in 1st gen Stohr. Ken Tyrrell's engine dropped a valve on the test day. George Dean and Ken's crew worked into the night tearing apart two engines to build one good one - on the counter of the trailer! Qualifying was F1-style with Osborne throwing down a lap, then Liverato besting the time, and back and forth, with Liverato squeaking out the pole with a blistering 1:17.865, more than 4 seconds faster than the lap record. Osborne was just 0.213 behind with Tyrrell third, and Crook fourth. The race was very exciting with Liverato and Osborne swapping positions. Osborne had an oil filter o-ring failure and spun on his own oil. Tyrrell got past Liverato. Both sliced through traffic, which started on lap 4 of 18. In the closing laps, Liverato closed the gap to Tyrrell but had contact with Crook with one lap to go. Tyrrell won and set the new lap record at 1:18.29. Congratulations to Ken and all Stohr competitors!
